When I was 8 years old, I attended Islamic Sunday School for approximately 1.5 hours before deciding that it wasn’t for me. But what I learned during my brief stay is that the word “Allah” meant “God” and that Muslims worshipped the same God as “the People of the Book,” or those who belong to an Abrahamic tradition. Fifteen years later, news stories are informing me that the ruling party in Malaysia seems to have forgotten this very basic lesson. Maybe we should send my Sunday school teacher over there for a refresher.
