UMMA Clinic Part I: The Path and Miracle Of Servicing Health Care To A Community | @Heart Podcasts

The UMMA Clinic was initially established as an idea by several UCLA American Muslim students who saw a dire need for health care center after the Los Angeles riots of 1992. Aware that 51% of the area’s adult target population has no medical insurance at all, exceeding the county average of 31%, they opted to build something that would benefit the community and in turn they found themselves uplifting the American Muslim identity.

@Heart sits with Yasser Aman (CEO and President) of the UMMA Clinic for a personal reflection exploring the early challenges and triumphs: its opening, its possible closure and its achievements.

UMMA has been recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives as a beacon of hope making outstanding contributions to American society by American Muslims.
