Something about the way Americans eat isn't working and hasn't been for a long time.

The number of obese Americans is now greater than the number who are merely overweight, according to government figures released in January. It's as if once we taste food, we can't stop until we've gorged ourselves.

Taking that inclination into account, some people are adopting an unusual solution to overeating. Rather than battling temptation in grocery stores, restaurants and their own kitchens, they simply don't eat. At least not at certain times of the day or specific days of the week.

Thursday Morningclocks

7:00 AM: Alarm clock buzzes.
Get up, stagger to the bathroom—shower on.
Work clothes on, hair looks good, coffee brewing in the kitchen.
“It’s 7:30! Shoot!”

7:30 AM: Jump in the car, coffee in hand.
Try to make it to work on time without spilling coffee.

7:55 AM: “Phew! Made it.”
Burn through the first 4 hours.

Eye Opening Words in the Quran Describing the Life of this World

Eye Opening Words in the Quran Describing the Life of this World

By MuslimMatters on from muslimmatters.org

Surah Al-Hadid (its title meaning, ‘the iron’) talks about the reality of the transient life of this world. Several descriptive words are used to reveal to us its true nature. After that, Allah warns us to remember that the life of this world is nothing but a ”deceptive enjoyment”.

“Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment“. [57:20]

In order to see the real picture being painted by our Creator as He details to us the reality of the life of this world, it would be beneficial to ponder on the root meanings of the several Arabic words He has used in the above verse.

Many people assume that 'Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness' is a distinctly American phenomenon. While it is indeed an American phenomenon, the Islamic Shariah has delineated these concepts from its very inception, and enshrined them in its overall goals. In this lecture, the speakers will show that far from being un-Islamic values, these values form the very core of being a true Muslim.
