Last month, the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF), which has been called the Arab Booker, announced their short list for the 2010 award. Although the recognition of Arab literary accomplishments is of course great, you can imagine my disappointment when I learned that only one woman was shortlisted for the prestigious prize this year, and that the same has been happening since the inception of the prize in 2007.
