Lying to Your Husband to Set Him Right?

Lying to Your Husband to Set Him Right?

By SuhaibWebb on from www.suhaibwebb.com

Question: My husband used to drink alcohol, and I am someone who prays alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah). I was very concerned and unsure of what to do, so I lied to him, and I hope that Allah forgives me. I told him: ‘I dreamt of a Shaykh, and he told me that my husband has to stop drinking, or else such and such (bad) will happen.’ When I told him in the morning, he believed me. He made ablution alhamdulillah, and started praying. I still feel uneasy because I lied to my husband, but alhamdulillah he prays now, and has not missed a single prayer ever since. I hope you can benefit me, and pray that Allah forgives me for this lie.

Working for a Trash Company Hinders Prayer

Working for a Trash Company Hinders Prayer

The Question:
I work for a trash company and by mid-day trash tends to be all over my clothes. I’m not able to change my clothes and observe Dhuhr prayer and was told that I should wait until I go home to pray Dhuhr with `Asr. Another person told me to simply quit my job and look for other work. In today’s world that is simply not an option, as I have children to feed, and cannot risk losing my source of livelihood. What do I do?

It is very difficult to read the headlines and not cringe at the endless parade of Muslim misdemeanors and the constant criticism. Some might say it has unnerved us; it has jarred us; it has shaken us; it has gotten to us. It may have gotten to us a very long time ago, starting with the humiliation the Muslim world suffered under colonial rule, and the present domination of de facto puppet governments and multinational corporations. While it is satisfying, convenient and even correct to blame the media—and I do—it is ultimately not a very productive course of action, seeing as how we have negligible control. Not to mention that the blame-game is unsavory in itself.
The Ocean of Dunya

The Ocean of Dunya

Yesterday, I went to the beach. As I sat watching the massive Californian waves, I realized something strange. The ocean is so breathtakingly beautiful. But just as it is beautiful, it is also deadly. The same spellbinding waves, which we appreciate from the shore, can kill us if we enter them. Water, the same substance necessary to sustain life, can end life, in drowning. And the same ocean that holds ships afloat can shatter those ships to pieces.

The Prophet Mohammad ﷺ said in a famous hadith: “None of you will complete your faith until you love me more than your fathers, your sons,”—and in another narration—“and all of humanity together.” One time Omar radi allahu `anhu (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Ya Rasulullah (O Messenger of Allah) I swear by Allah that after myself I love you the most.” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “You’re still not a believer O Omar. You will not be a believer until you love me more than you love yourself.” So Prophet ﷺ left and Omar was thinking. Then he ran back to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Ya Rasul Allah (O Messenger of Allah) I swear by Allah that I love you more than I love myself.” Then the Prophet ﷺ said, “Now you are a believer, Omar.”

A blessed gathering recently took place in Leicester, England, and it was the final maqra’ (reading) of the entire Sahih al-Bukhari under the supervision of Shaykh Ahmad Ali Surty, who Shaykh Akram Nadwi says has the shortest isnad (chain of transmission) of the book to Imam Bukhari in the entire world.

When I recently consolidated a student loan I had taken out many years ago, I noticed that the amount I owed was more than double what I had originally borrowed. I’m still in school, so I don’t have double the education from when I first took out the loan. I definitely don’t have double the income. Even before I knew anything about Islam and how it forbids usury, I knew something was wrong with that picture. And that there was a bigger picture involving a whole world in debt crisis.

Pain, Loss, and the Path to God

Pain, Loss, and the Path to God

I still remember the desperation. In the deep disappointment which often follows self-reflection, I turned to my Creator to plead. I turned to plead – but not for what can be measured, bought, sold, or traded. It was desperation for a truer currency. With my flaws suddenly made open to me, I became desperate to be liberated from the tyranny of my own nafs (lower desires). I became desperate to be a better person.
