Forgiveness and Tolerance in Islam

Forgiveness and Tolerance in Islam

By SuhaibWebb on from www.suhaibwebb.com

It never ceases to amaze me that Allah can inspire so much fear in our hearts when we reflect on His supremacy, yet his mercy is equally as vast as His dominion. Allah tells us in a Hadith Qudsi (sacred narration of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ): “O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you” (Al-Tirmidhi). Subhan’Allah (Glory be to Allah) there is no limit to Allah’s forgiveness, even though our mistakes are numerous.

The third objective of Surat al-Fatiha is that it trains us in the correct concept of worship and it causes us to love worship, as is shown by the verse “Iyaka na`budu, wa iyaka nasta`een (It is You we worship and You we ask for help).” (Qur’an, 1:5)

Freedom Flotilla Updates

On May 31, Israel attacked – in international waters – the Freedom Flotilla, a six ship fleet carrying aid to the besieged Gaza Strip. The Flotilla was carrying 10,000 tons of aid and about 700 peaceful activists from all over the world. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) raided the biggest ship, the Mavi Marmara, killing at least 9 people and injuring scores of other civilians, and seized the rest of the ships, bringing them in to an Israeli port. They then proceeded to arrest and/or deport the activists. This wasn’t the end of the assault—the Rachel Corrie, an Irish ship named after the activist who was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer as she protested over house demolitions in Gaza in 2003, also attempted to sail to Gaza with aid days later, and was also intercepted by Israel. On June 7, the Israeli Navy killed four Palestinians off the Gaza coast.

A Response to Sh. Anwar al-Awlaki

By SuhaibWebb on from www.youtube.com

In an interview published recently by Alqaeda, Sheik Anwar Alawlaki gave theological grounds for targeting civilians in airplanes, depending on his understanding of some sayings for Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
In this clip, Fadel Soliman resorts to the explanation of the Islamic scholars for these Prophetic sayings to refute Sh. Anwar's misleading opinion. Fadel also admonishes Sh. Anwar not to defame the name of the Prophet and calls upon him to retract what he said and clear himself of this opinion.

Palestine: an Unspeakable Tragedy and the Condition of Our Ummah

I think there’s a place in the human mind where we hide when there’s nowhere left to go. And perhaps there’s a part of the human heart where we relive forever unthinkable tragedy. However, for the people in Palestine today, that tragedy is not just an image of the mind or heart; it [...]

Thursday Morningclocks

7:00 AM: Alarm clock buzzes.
Get up, stagger to the bathroom—shower on.
Work clothes on, hair looks good, coffee brewing in the kitchen.
“It’s 7:30! Shoot!”

7:30 AM: Jump in the car, coffee in hand.
Try to make it to work on time without spilling coffee.

7:55 AM: “Phew! Made it.”
Burn through the first 4 hours.

All It Took Was One Date

All It Took Was One Date

It is completely natural and inherent in humans – a phenomenon recurring through history. We all want status; we all want to be recognized. Often we may yearn to be among the ranks of the great people that tread the Earth before us; people who made a difference and changed the world for the better. Sometimes we then focus on our bigger deeds, the deeds we feel will hold more weight with Allah `azza wa jal (mighty and majestic is He). The intention can be well placed; we simply want to benefit the most and do the best we possibly can with our time. So long as our intention is sincerely and purely for Allah `azza wa jal, in His service and not for status or recognition, this can be admirable; in fact, it is something we need as Muslims today.

Taking Responsibility for our Actions

The city under siege was about to surrender without any bloodshed in 1453 AD. But three Venetian warships came in with reinforcements, and the Muslim fleet, under the command of Turkish admiral Suleiman Baltughlu, failed to block the reinforcements from entering Constantinople’s gulf. The Ottoman sultan, Muhammad II (also known as Al-Faatih or [...]
