The Lesson Taught by a Rose

The Lesson Taught by a Rose

By SuhaibWebb on from www.suhaibwebb.com

By Yasmin Mogahed | originally published by InFocusRoses have always been my favorite flower. I’m always struck by how perfect they are—for a moment. But in that moment, and even more so the moments that follow, roses have taught me an invaluable lesson. And I don’t mean a lesson in botany or horticulture.I mean a lesson in [...]

A Lecture by Suhaib Webb | Transcribed by Fuseina MohamadPart IWe came together for a noble purpose: to study the book of Allah, the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the speech of Allah, innahu kalaam Allah. This is the speech of the Creator talking directly to the creation. That is why the father of the great [...]
The Prophet’s ﷺ Sadness

The Prophet’s ﷺ Sadness

By SuhaibWebb on from www.suhaibwebb.com

QuestionI am having trouble understanding the following narration from al-Bukhari’s Sahih:“The divine inspiration paused for a while and the Prophet ﷺ became so sad, as we have heard, that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains, and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order [...]
Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself

Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself

What do you think of when you see a sister who isn’t wearing hijab? How about a brother who is laughing with many girls?
Ever look down on them? Think you’re better than them? It’s easy to be self-righteous. It’s even easier to fall prey to this attitude if you sport the ‘righteous’ look.
But [...]

Taking Off the Hijab

Taking Off the Hijab

By SuhaibWebb on from www.suhaibwebb.com

Question

I understand that hijab is required, and I’ve been wearing it for some time now but I feel like putting it on might have been a mistake. I don’t feel like it’s made me become a better Muslim, and I feel almost like I’m deceiving people because they look at me as an example even though I’m still struggling with a lot of things. Also, if I take it off, is it really something Allah will punish me for? It seems like such a petty thing. Isn’t the most important thing having a clean heart?

by Najah NadyAllah (subhanahu wa ta`ala – exalted is He) has created humans with a variety of differences in languages, colors, interests, perceptions, and idiosyncrasies. These differences are a normal and universally accepted aspect of the nature of life and they are glaring proofs of the Almightiness and Omnipotence of Allah. Allah (swt) said, “And [...]

“It’s a desert.”
That’s how I always referred to the weather back home when explaining to  my American friends about the climate I grew up in. I thought that summed it up, and gave an accurate description of how sunny and intolerably hot it was most days of the year. One day while hanging [...]

“And How Excellent These Companions Are!”

“And How Excellent These Companions Are!”

By SuhaibWebb on from www.suhaibwebb.com

by AmatullahThe Prophet ﷺ once came upon his companion, Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), and noticed that he looked sad.  He immediately asked him,“O Thawban, what has changed your appearance?”Thawban replied, “O Messenger of Allah, I do not have any sickness or any pain except that I feel discomfort when I do not [...]

“…and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty”

By SuhaibWebb on from www.suhaibwebb.com

by Muhammad HaqThere are many proofs for the fact that the shari`a (Islamic law) is based on ease and facilitation and is against rigidity and unnecessary constriction. Any good book on Usūl al-Fiqh will usually provide all such proofs. One of the key proofs used is the Qur’ānic verse mentioned above, in which Allāh subhanahu [...]
