Will Marriage Solve My Problems?

Will Marriage Solve My Problems?

By uzzie on from www.suhaibwebb.com

After engaging more with the Muslim community through activities like da`wah (calling to Islam), conferences, and halaqat (study circles), I have observed something intriguing: there seems to be a fascination—even obsession—with the topic of marriage. Regardless of whether a particular lecture is dedicated to something other than gender relations, the topic of marriage somehow always creeps up.

Now, do I consider this a bad thing? Not necessarily. Indeed, considering the magnitude of fitan (trials) that many unmarried folks face, such as the pressure to date or deal with the opposite gender on terms outside of the boundaries of Islam, I believe that marriage is something that should be discussed and encouraged.

Know Your Soul, Know Yourself

Know Your Soul, Know Yourself

The idea of curbing the soul's passions and of seeking to purify it is reiterated in the following hadith: 'There are three acts that, whoever does them will experience the sweetness of faith: one who worships God alone, for there is no true god but Him; one who pays his yearly zakat on his wealth with an agreeable soul – not giving a weak, decrepit nor diseased animal, but giving from his middle wealth, for God does not ask for the best of your wealth and nor orders to give the worst of it; and one who purifies his soul.' A man inquired: What is purification of the soul (tazkiyat al-nafs)? He replied: 'To know that God is with him wherever he may be.'1
The Meaning of Tawba (Repentance from Sins)

The Meaning of Tawba (Repentance from Sins)

By uzzie on from muslimmatters.org

Being protecting of matters of Sharīʿah is only possible for the Muslim by him/her being swift towards tawba from each wrongful action committed. It is also necessary to refrain from persistence [doing repeatedly] in sin. One can avoid being considered as someone who is persistently sinning, by making tawba for every sin committed (meaning “persistence” does not mean repeating the sin, rather it is repeating sins without making tawba). If one repeatedly sins, let him renew his tawba for such repetition, even if this process occurs many times; there is no sickness for which a cure does not exist [the cure for sins is repentance].
Start with the Qur’an

Start with the Qur’an

The Prophet ﷺ (peace be upon him) said in a hadith recorded in Bukhari, related by Uthman ibn Affan:

“.خيركم من تعلم القرآن و علمه”

“The best of you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it.”

Do You Really Want to Memorize the Qur’an?

Many of us make excuses for why we cannot memorize the Qur’an. Some of us are too busy. Some of us simply feel it’s too insurmountable a task. However, we make these excuses while having many blessings, countless of which others pray to have.
Pitfalls of a Practicing Muslim

Pitfalls of a Practicing Muslim

It is said: “Whoever acts by what he knows, God will bequeath to him knowledge that he does not know.”1 Thus, as a person practices what they know, they are guided to a deepening of faith, a sharpening of the spiritual faculty, and an intensifying of taqwa. The Qurʾān insists:

While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance, and bestows on them their piety. [Surah Muḥammad,17]
The Lesser of Two Good Deeds

The Lesser of Two Good Deeds

The sixth trick of Shaytan – if he can’t make you fall into any of the previous traps and he knows that you’re going to do good – is to make you choose to do the good that has lesser reward.

For example, the students are going to organize a rally on campus one morning where...

Give Good Tidings to the Patient

It is one of those unavoidable facts of life: sometimes we find ourselves in situations we don’t want to be in. Often, we have to do things or resist doing other things. The Qur’ān and Ḥadīth mention such occurrences, and also elaborate on our response to them.
